When to Ask a Grown-Up

Being a good agent boss does not mean you have to handle everything all by yourself. Even the best bosses in the world have people they turn to when something is confusing or worrying. Knowing WHEN to ask a trusted grown-up for help is one of the most important skills you can have. It is not a sign of weakness — it is actually a sign of being very smart and responsible. Today we will learn to recognize the moments when it is time to bring an adult into the loop.

Signs That It Is Time to Ask a Grown-Up

How do you know when something is a grown-up situation? Here are some clear signs. Sign 1: The agent is asking for information that feels private or strange. If an agent suddenly wants your password, your address, or your phone number and you are not sure why — stop and ask a trusted adult before giving anything. Sign 2: The agent did something that seems like a big mistake. If it deleted important files, sent a message you did not mean to send, or spent money — tell a trusted adult right away. The sooner you tell them, the sooner they can help fix it. Sign 3: Something feels wrong but you cannot explain why. That uneasy feeling in your stomach is worth paying attention to. If something about an agent's behavior makes you uncomfortable, that is a good reason to get a second opinion from an adult. Sign 4: The agent is asking you to do something that seems unsafe or unfair. A trustworthy agent does not ask you to keep secrets from your parents, do things that feel dangerous, or go against rules your family has set.

The Big Idea

Some situations with AI agents are too big, too confusing, or too unusual to handle alone. Knowing when to ask a trusted grown-up is one of the most important skills of a good agent boss.

Here is a story about getting adult help at the right time. Priya was using an agent to help her find information for a school report. Suddenly, a pop-up appeared that looked like it was from the agent. It said: to continue, please enter your email password. Priya stopped. That did not feel right. The agent had never asked for her password before. Why would it need it now? Instead of typing her password, Priya called her mom over. Her mom looked at it and said: that is not from the agent — that is a scam trying to steal your password. Good job stopping! Priya did exactly the right thing. She felt something was wrong, and she asked for help instead of going ahead alone.

You might wonder: what if the grown-up does not know much about AI agents either? That is okay! Grown-ups do not have to be technology experts to help you. They can help you think through the situation. They can help you decide if something seems safe. They can look up information with you. They can contact the company or school if something went seriously wrong. And if neither of you is sure, a simple rule always works: when in doubt, do not. Pause the agent, close the app, and look into the situation before you continue. You do not need to have all the answers. You just need to know when to ask.

When in Doubt, Do Not

If you and the grown-up are still not sure if something is safe — do not continue until you find out. Pausing is always safer than charging ahead into something unknown.
