Spot-the-AI Hunt
You have explored AI at home, in games, in apps, in cars, and in cameras and microphones. You know the difference between a plain machine and an AI helper. Now it is time to put all of that knowledge together. This is your Spot-the-AI Hunt! Read each example carefully, use everything you have learned in this module, and decide: is this AI or not? Let's go!
Round 1 — Quick Examples
Here are some everyday situations. Think about each one before you move on to the quiz questions below. Situation A: You tap a button on a remote control and the TV volume goes up. Situation B: A music app finishes a song and automatically plays another song it thinks you will enjoy. Situation C: A refrigerator keeps food cold at the same temperature every day. Situation D: A security camera outside a store notices a person walking toward the door and turns on the porch light. Situation E: A calculator shows you that 6 times 7 equals 42. Situation F: A spam filter moves an unwanted email to your junk folder before you ever see it.
Situation A: You press a remote and the TV volume goes up. Is this AI?

Round 2 — Trickier Situations
Great work on Round 1! Round 2 is a little trickier. Some of these might surprise you — take your time.
A video game character sees you hiding behind a wall and walks around to catch you from the other side. Is this AI?
A car's speedometer shows you how fast you are going. Is this AI?
An app on a phone takes a photo of a flower and tells you the species of flower it is. Is this AI?
Prompt Challenge
AI can be a wonderful helper when you want to learn something new. Write a prompt asking an AI to teach you about an animal you find interesting.
Your prompt should…
- Mention the animal you want to learn about
- Ask for one example or fun fact
- Tell the AI to keep the answer simple
Spotting AI is a superpower for the modern world. When you know which parts of an app, car, or device are using AI, you understand how it works and can make smarter choices about how you use it.
Your Own AI Hunt
- Choose one of these locations for your hunt: a supermarket, an airport on TV, your school, or your own home.
- Find five things in that location. For each one, decide: plain machine or AI?
- For every AI you find, write: What is it sensing? What decision is it making?
- For every plain machine, write: What fixed job does it do?
- Share your results with a classmate or family member. Did they agree with your decisions?
