Does AI Think Like You?
Close your eyes for a second. Think about your favorite food. Maybe you can almost smell it. Now think about how you feel when you hug someone you love. Can a computer do any of that? Today we are going to find out what is really going on inside your mind — and inside an AI — and see just how different those two things are.
Your Amazing Mind
Your mind is incredible. You have feelings — happiness, excitement, sadness, boredom. You have memories of real things that happened to you. You have a body that can feel the sun, taste a strawberry, and know when you are tired. You also have people who love you and a life full of stories that belong only to you. All of that shapes the way you think.
Your mind grows from your feelings, your body, your memories, and the people around you. No computer has any of those things.
Now let's look at AI. An AI is a computer program. It learned by reading a huge amount of text — billions of sentences from books, websites, and articles. When you ask it a question, it looks for patterns in all that text and picks words that seem like a good answer. It does not remember yesterday. It does not feel curious or tired. It has no family, no body, and no life outside its program.
Match each thing to the description that fits it best.

So when AI writes a sentence, it is not thinking the way you think. It is doing very fast math — matching patterns. You are doing something much richer: feeling, remembering, imagining, and understanding all at once.
Both you and AI can answer questions, but the reasons are totally different. You understand. AI pattern-matches. Those are not the same thing, and that is actually fascinating!
What does an AI use to answer your questions?
Which of these does YOUR mind have that an AI does NOT?
Mind Map: You vs. AI
- Get a piece of paper and draw two circles side by side.
- Write 'ME' in one circle and 'AI' in the other.
- In the ME circle, write three things your mind can do that an AI cannot. Think about feelings, memories, and your body.
- In the AI circle, write one or two things AI is good at, like finding information fast.
- Share your mind map with a family member and explain the difference in your own words.
