AI can be wrong — even when it sounds totally sure! Read what the AI says and decide: Trust it, Check it first, or It looks wrong.
Someone asked the AI:
How many legs does a spider have?
🤖 The AI answered:
Spiders have 8 legs.
How does it actually work?
Today’s AI systems (including large language models like the ones behind chatbots) learn by reading enormous amounts of text from the internet and books. They get very good at predicting what words come next, which makes their answers sound fluent and confident.
But fluency is not the same as accuracy. The AI has no way to look things up in real-time (unless given a special tool), so it relies entirely on patterns it saw during training. If it saw incorrect information repeated many times, it can repeat that mistake confidently. This is called a hallucination— the AI generates text that sounds true but isn’t.
The safest approach: use AI as a starting point, then verify important facts with a trusted source (textbook, encyclopedia, subject expert). The habit of checking is one of the most valuable skills in the age of AI.
