Robot Senses
Match every task to the sensor built for the job, and learn how robots perceive the world.
Robot Senses
A robot only knows the world through its sensors. Each one is good at sensing something different. Match every task to the sensor built for the job.

Task 1 of 8
Tell whether the traffic light is showing red or green.
How does it actually work?
Perception is the first stage of any robot's loop. The physical world is full of different signals — light, sound, distance, heat, motion — and no single sensor can capture them all. Each sensor turns one kind of signal into numbers the robot's computer can use.
Real robots carry many sensors and blend their readings — a process called sensor fusion — because every sensor has blind spots. A camera fails in the dark; lidar cannot read colour. Choosing and combining sensors well is core robotics engineering.
