Fact-Check Investigation

Pick a real claim and investigate it like a fact-checker.

Your mission

Choose a circulating claim, trace it to its source, weigh the evidence, and publish a verdict.

What you'll need

  • A computer with internet
  • A claim that is actually circulating
  • A document for your write-up

Your step-by-step plan

  1. Pick a claim

Choose a specific claim you have seen shared online or heard repeated.

  2. Trace the source

Find where it originated and whether that source is reliable.

  3. Weigh the evidence

Gather evidence for and against, checking more than one independent source.

  4. Publish a verdict

Write a clear verdict — true, false, misleading — with your reasoning and sources.

Make it yours

  • Explain why the claim spread, whether or not it is true.
  • Fact-check a claim an AI chatbot told you.

How you'll know you succeeded

  • The claim was traced toward its origin.
  • Independent sources were used.
  • The verdict is supported by cited evidence.
