Counting to 20
Numbers are everywhere! They tell us how many toys we have, how old we are, and when it is snack time. Today you will learn to count all the way up to TWENTY and say each number loud and clear.
Counting 1 to 10
Let's warm up. Say each number out loud:\n\n**1** one\n**2** two\n**3** three\n**4** four\n**5** five\n**6** six\n**7** seven\n**8** eight\n**9** nine\n**10** ten\n\nGreat job! That is your first TEN.
Counting 11 to 20
Now the teens! These are a little trickier:\n\n**11** eleven\n**12** twelve\n**13** thirteen\n**14** fourteen\n**15** fifteen\n**16** sixteen\n**17** seventeen\n**18** eighteen\n**19** nineteen\n**20** TWENTY!\n\nSay them with a grown-up. Then say them alone.
What number comes AFTER 15?
Counting Things
Counting is NOT just saying numbers — it is about HOW MANY things there are. Point to each object as you count:\n\n- Count 5 pencils\n- Count 12 blocks\n- Count 20 crackers\n\nEvery time you POINT and SAY a number, you are doing real math.
Count Your Toes and Fingers
1. Hold up both hands. Count your fingers: 1, 2, 3... 10!\n2. Now take off your socks. Count your toes: 1, 2, 3... 10 more!\n3. Fingers PLUS toes = 20 total! \n4. You have 20 counting helpers with you always.
Number Hunt
1. Walk around your house with a grown-up.\n2. Find things that come in different numbers: 2 shoes, 4 chair legs, 10 stair steps.\n3. Count each group aloud.\n4. Can you find a group of 20?\n5. Tell your family what you found.

Write the Numbers
When we write numbers, they look like this:\n\n1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10\n11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20\n\nNotice that 11-19 all start with "1" (one ten) and 20 is "two zero" (two tens). Numbers tell a story when you write them!
