A password is a secret word or code that unlocks something just for you, kind of like a key unlocks your front door. When you type in the right password, a website or app knows it is really you, not someone else pretending to be you. That is why passwords need to stay secret. If you gave your house key to every stranger who asked, anyone could walk right in -- a password works the same way.

A weak password is short and easy to guess, like '12345' or the word 'password.' A strong password is longer and mixes different kinds of characters, like letters, numbers, and symbols. For example, 'PurpleDragon72!' is much stronger than '1234' because it is longer and harder for anyone to guess, even a computer trying thousands of guesses very fast.

Rule one: always ask a grown-up before downloading a game or app. Rule two: never click on strange links or pop-ups, even if they look exciting. Rule three: if anything online ever feels confusing or makes you uncomfortable, tell a trusted grown-up right away.
