What Is a Movie?
A movie is thousands of photographs shown very fast — so fast that the pictures look like they are moving! When a camera takes 24 photos every single second, your eyes see smooth movement instead of separate pictures. This trick is called persistence of vision. Movies can tell any kind of story: funny, sad, scary, or adventurous. They can show real things that happened or imaginary worlds that never existed.
The very first movie shown to a paying audience was in Paris in 1895. It was only 50 seconds long and showed workers leaving a factory — no superheroes, no special effects! Movies have come a very long way since then.
Every Story Has a Beginning, Middle, and End
Movie stories work just like the stories in your books. There is always: A BEGINNING — where you meet the characters and learn what the story is about. A MIDDLE — where the characters face a big problem or go on a journey. This is the exciting part! AN END — where the problem gets solved (or maybe does not get solved in a scary movie!).
The People Who Make a Movie
It takes lots of people working together to make a movie. Here are some of the most important: The DIRECTOR is the boss of the movie. They tell everyone where to stand, how to act, and what the camera should show. The ACTORS are the people you see on screen. They pretend to be the characters in the story. The CAMERA OPERATOR runs the camera and decides what the audience will actually see. The COMPOSER writes the music that makes you feel excited, sad, or scared at just the right moment.

Draw Your Own Movie Storyboard
You are going to be a director! 1. Think of a short story with a beginning, middle, and end. It can be anything — a dog finding a bone, a rocket going to the moon, a kid making a new friend. 2. Draw three boxes on a piece of paper and label them BEGINNING, MIDDLE, and END. 3. In each box, draw what happens in your movie at that part of the story. 4. Add a title at the top — every great movie has a name! 5. Share your storyboard with a friend or family member and tell them the story out loud, pointing to each drawing.
