Price Comparison Shopping

The same item often costs DIFFERENT prices at different stores. A loaf of bread might cost 3 dollars at one store and 4 dollars at another. Smart shoppers COMPARE PRICES before buying. This is called PRICE COMPARISON or "shopping around."

But size matters! A small box might be 4 dollars and a giant box 10 dollars — but if the giant box has 5 times more, it could be the better deal. Use the UNIT PRICE: total cost ÷ number of units (or per ounce, per pound). The lower unit price is usually the better value, even if the total cost is higher.

Brand A: 12 oz cereal for 4 dollars. Brand B: 18 oz cereal for 5 dollars. Which is the better deal?

Other comparison tips. Check ONLINE prices vs in-store. Look for COUPONS or sales. Watch for HIDDEN COSTS like shipping or taxes. SAME-DAY price-matching: some stores match competitor prices. STORE BRANDS often cost less than name brands and can be just as good.

🎯

Real Comparison

Pick a product your family buys often. Find prices at 2-3 different stores (websites are fine). Calculate the unit price for each. Where's the best deal? Could you tell your family?

Comparison shopping is one of the easiest ways to save money. A few minutes can save you dollars or more — every shopping trip.
