Our Community Helpers and How We All Belong
Think about your street or your block. Who picks up the trash so it doesn't pile up? Who puts out fires if one starts? Who brings your mail? A community is a group of people who live near each other and help each other, and every single helper has an important job that keeps everyone safe and happy.

Who Are Community Helpers?
A firefighter puts out fires and rescues people and pets who are stuck. A doctor or nurse helps you when you are sick or hurt so you can feel better. A teacher helps you learn to read, write, and solve problems. A mail carrier brings letters and packages to your door, rain or shine. Every one of these jobs is different, but each helper is doing something important so the whole community can be safe, healthy, and cared for.
A firefighter's helmet is bright and easy to spot in smoke, and it has a hard shell to protect their head. Firefighters also carry an oxygen tank on their back so they can breathe clean air even inside a smoky building.
Why Communities Need Rules
Imagine if cars didn't stop at red lights, or if everyone talked at once during story time. Rules like "stop at red lights" and "raise your hand before talking" help a community run smoothly so nobody gets hurt and everybody gets a turn. Rules aren't there to make things less fun — they're there so everyone in the community can feel safe and treated fairly.
You Belong to a Community Too
You are already part of many communities: your family, your classroom, your neighborhood, and your school. Being part of a community means you get help from others, and you can help others too! Sharing crayons, holding the door for a classmate, or telling a grown-up when someone gets hurt are all ways kids help their community every single day.
