What Is Vibe Coding?
Coding means giving a computer instructions so it can do something, like draw a picture or play a sound. Old-style coding uses special typed symbols. Vibe coding is different -- you use everyday words, like you're talking to a helpful friend. You say what you want, and a smart computer helper turns your words into a working game, picture, or app.
You Talk, the Computer Builds
Grown-ups who build apps and games sometimes use AI helpers, like Claude, to do this every day. They type a sentence like, 'Build me a bouncing blue ball on a green screen,' and the AI helper writes the code and shows them the ball bouncing -- all from that one sentence. The clearer and more specific your words are, the better the computer understands. 'Make something fun' is fuzzy. 'Make a yellow duck that quacks when I click it' is clear and specific.
If your first try doesn't look right, that's okay! You can say more, like 'Make the duck bigger' or 'Make it quack louder.' Vibe coding is a back-and-forth conversation, not just one try.
Words That Build Things
Some words are extra helpful when you're vibe coding: color words (red, blue, gold), size words (big, small, tiny), and action words (spin, bounce, quack, jump). Putting these together helps the computer helper picture exactly what you want, the same way describing a drawing helps a friend picture it too.
