Orville and Wilbur Wright ran a bicycle shop, but they dreamed of flying. They built a wood-and-cloth airplane they named the Flyer. On their very first try, it flew 120 feet. By their fourth try that same day, it flew 852 feet and stayed up for 59 seconds — almost a full minute!
